The NZ Team

Our superb Pioneers Aotearoa | New Zealand Staff Team (+1)

Introducing in alphabetical order…

Christina Baird

Christina

As a Board Member Christina became increasingly involved in Pioneers’ long term strategy. When the need came for us to add to our staff team Christina was an obvious choice. She joined the team in a part time capacity in September ’08, to specialise inĀ Personnel Development. Christina is married to Mike Coleman, a veterinary medicine specialist.

With a PhD in social psychology, counseling experience and years as a senior staff leader in TSCF (Tertiary Student Christian Fellowship), Christina is more than able to help our people be the best they can be in cross-cultural ministry. Pre-field coaching is a particular passion for Christina and she’d love to meet up and discuss how we can help you prepare to thrive in a cross-cultural context.

Su Hsia Chow

Sush (Su Hsia)

Su Hsia (Sush) joined the team in December ’09. Kiwi born to Malaysian Chinese parents, Sush has a background in design and design account management. She has a great eye and brings that to bear as she takes on responsibility for our Public Relations.

A graduate of Eastwest College of Intercultural Studies, Sush was searching for opportunities for ‘creative types’ in mission when Jamie offered her a position on the team. She has a passion for meeting new people and seeing them released into mission so she’s likely to be your first point of contact with Pioneers.

With Jamie, Sush is the only other full-time staff member on the team at the moment.

Bev Edmiston

Bev

Bev is the most recent member of the team and is primarily involved with Personnel Administration. Bev has a passion for the written word too and she compiles our bi-monthly prayer news as well as copy editing our promotional material.

Prior to joining the team on a contract basis, Bev was part of the Baptist Mission Agency Tranzsend where she was responsible for most of their written material, including the mission news in the monthly Baptist newspaper.

Cathy Marston

Cathy

Cathy joined the team in ’03 to take on the role as Financial Controller, managing our income, expenditure and workers’ sponsorship. She also works part time with Pioneers because aside from being a full time mum with a couple of teenagers she is also co-leader of an alternative church community in West Auckland. Cathy is married to Sean Marston, a mobiliser and international youth ministry consultant with the mission agency SIM.

Pauline Wood

Pauline

Pauline has been involved with Pioneers as long as Jamie has but mostly in a volunteer capacity. She brings a wealth of experience to the team, including four years undergraduate study in mission. In addition to providing excellent hospitality to visitors, she’s manages our Donor Relations part time as well as consulting with the team on personnel matters. Having passion for pastoral care and an eye for detail, Pauline’s input is highly valued.

Jamie Matenga Wood

Jamie

Jamie has been the Director of Pioneers in New Zealand since 2000. He also leads the Mission Mobilisation Task Force of the World Evangelical Alliance Missions Commission.

His background training is in mission mobilisation and organisation development. After attaining undergraduate qualifications in mission studies, he graduated from All Nations Christian College in the UK with a Masters Degree in 1998. The main thrust of his study was examining Postmodernism and its implication for mission organisations seeking to recruit a new generation of cross-cultural workers with a more post-modern worldview.

In addition to teaching in churches, seminars, workshops and Bible Colleges on a variety of Biblical, Philosophical and Missions subjects, Jamie is a singer/songwriter with enough material for a 2hr concert. Check out the resources section for more information.
