“What does Jesus teach about money?” asked “A", with genuine curiosity. Over the last few months, he had been coming out with a question like this a couple of times per week, clearly wanting to talk about the differences between what Islam requires and what Jesus asks of his followers.
A few weeks earlier, while discussing the fast of Ramadan, we explained that Christians don’t need to perform such fasts to earn God’s favour because Jesus has already paid for all our sins. With a chuckle, “A” responded, “Wow, it’s easy for you! Jesus just forgives all your sins!” A clap-the-hand-to-the-forehead moment—yes, “A”, it truly is just that easy!
How hard it is for people to accept that there’s truly nothing they can do to earn God’s favour, nothing to “make” Him accept them, apart from the finished work of Christ.
