You really know for sure?
It started out as a normal language session with my language helper. We had small talk about the weather, I offered her tea and cookies, and we sat down at the kitchen table. Somehow or another, we started talking about when her mother-in-law passed away shortly after she got married nearly 20 years ago. Then I asked her, “What does your book say about what happens after you die?”
Many of our friends believe that after you die, you stand before a scale. On each side of the scale, there is a book with all the things you have done well written in one book and all the things you have not done well written in the other book. Whichever half of the scale prevails determines where you go for eternity.
Then she asked me about what our Book says. I first shared about the similarities – we also have a heaven and a hell. We also are accountable for the things we have done wrong. There also will be a judgment day. But, for those who repent and believe, we have The Son who stands perfectly in our place and guarantees that our sins are forgiven. She asked me if I knew for sure I would go to heaven. I said “I do, that’s what the Book says.”
“You really know for sure?” She asked again. “Yes, I do.” I responded. She sat there pensively for a few seconds before changing the subject. There are a million more questions and conversations to be had, but what motivation to continue building our relationship and trucking along in language learning!
